Crease Dent Removal

Crease Dent Removal

Crease Dent Removal

These repairs were done quite a while back on a Subaru WRX STI. Both repairs featured here are crease dent removal video clips. We show a mix of techniques including glue pulling, using tools to push the damage out then “blending” the damage out with a specialized dent removal hammer. This customer recently purchased this car. It had multiple dents in it all over the place. He choose us to perform paintless dent repair to remove his damage because the rest of the vehicle and paint was in really great shape. We believe this was a 2004-2005 WRX STI. The car had low mileage and had been cared for very well but it had some minor dents and dings in it all over from normal driving.

Fender Crease Removal

The first dent removal is a crease located in the left side fender. This damage was towards the back of the fender near the door. In order to gain access to the backside of this damage we had to remove part of the plastic fender liner. Once apart of this is removed we are able to get a tool on the backside of this damage. From there we push it out using a soft style tipped tool. Once the damage is mostly out we switch over to a sharper tipped tool. This allows us to pinpoint spots to push up and finish the damage out smooth.

Door Crease Removal

This damage was located in the front section of the right rear door. It being in this location creates one obstacle. This area is heavily braced for strength and rigidity. We start this repair with the glue pull method. Once we pull the damage out with glue we then use a brace style tool to push the damage out. This brace tool is extra thin allowing us to fit it between the bracing structure and exterior door skin. From there we do some minor blending with our blending hammer to smooth it out. Then follow this up with some minor buffing with some rubbing compound  to get rid of some minor scuffs from the damage. The damage is then finished and ready to return this now dent free car to a happy customer.

Can Dents in Body Lines be Repaired using Paintless Dent Repair?

We get these types of questions all of the time. The short answer is Yes. Many factors come into play when determining if a dent can be repaired or not. These same factors all apply to body line damage. For instance if there is severe paint damage to the dent, sometimes paintless dent repair is not the best option. But that is not always true, some customers are ok with minor paint damage and they are happy to touch the panel up after the metal is repaired. We did another post about this recently talking about paint damage and dent repair, you can see that article here.

This repair had no type of paint damage and would be considered a medium sized depth for a dent. The access to this dent with paintless dent repair tools was pretty straight forward. Access through the upper window channel was all we needed in order to repair this damage. No removal of any parts on this vehicle was necessary in this repair making it easier for us to repair and a quicker repair.

Advanced Driving Systems in Today’s Vehicles

Advanced Driving Systems in Today’s Vehicles

ADVANCED DRIVING SYSTEMS IN TODAY’S VEHICLES

What is ADAS?

It stands for Advanced driver-assistance systems.

These systems are found on many new vehicles. They feature systems such as:

Why do today’s vehicles have these systems?

Safety!

If you have a new vehicle chances are your vehicle features many of these systems. We recently attended an ADAS Calibration presentation put on by Autopart International. In order to work on today’s vehicles, you will also need to know what kind of systems the vehicle has and how to work with them. Most importantly how to make sure they are back to working order and calibrated AFTER repairs are done.

If these systems are not calibrated correctly they will misread what they interpreting and could CAUSE accidents. To insure the safety of the consumer, their vehicle and others on the roadways, this is extremely important step to make sure your car is taken to a reputable repair shop. Many systems when out of calibration will often NOT show any type of dash warning light, but with a vehicle diagnostic tool this will tell you if there is a fault in the system.

Where Was This Event At?

We attended this presentation in Rochester, NY at The Dent Guy’s Paintless Dent Repair shop. Here this class was geared towards the use of these systems in the Paintless Dent Repair industry. Many times in the Paintless Dent Repair Industry we are not dealing with major collisions like a typical body shop. The most common use of paintless dent repair would be with hail damage repair followed by minor door dings and minor collision repairs.

In order to gain access the dented areas, items must normally be taken apart in order to push these areas out with specialized tools. Taking items apart that feature any of these advanced systems are NOT as simply as unbolt and remove and reinstall. Items such as headlights, tail lights and headliners often need to removed to complete repairs.  That is just part of this process, after everything is put back together and the repair is made, these new systems need to be recalibrated to insure they are in proper specs by the original manufacture.

In this presentation we get a live demonstration of this calibration process, from setting up the measuring system and centering it with the vehicle, to setting the specifications used for this manufacture. Then we see what is all needed to actually calibrate a forward camera on this Toyota.

Body shops are known for being pricey, especially when it comes to hail repair. They use resource and labor intensive methods that often require repainting, panel removal, and filling. Not only are these materials expensive, but the steps involved are also time consuming. This is a very inefficient way to repair small dents. If your paint is chipped or cracked, then a body shop might be the only option. However, for minor body damage like simple door dings a professional PDR crew is the way to go.

State of The Art Tools and Techniques

Our experts use a variety of tools and techniques to remove dents of all shapes and sizes. Nearly any dent, as long as it hasn’t cracked the pain, can be fixed using paintless dent repair. We are only limited by a few factors such as:

  • Dent Depth – If the dent small but very deep then the risk of tearing the metal is far too high.
  • Dent Location – Repairing dents on panel/door edges is difficult because the metal is tight and not very malleable.
