Caught in a hailstorm while driving?

Most people can enjoy a bit of light hail but hailstorms are a whole other story. They are noisy, dangerous, and damaging, to say the least. If you live in the midwest, you are no stranger to hail and hailstorms.

There have been over 30 confirmed reports of hail in Sioux Falls so far this year and over 20 severe weather warnings in the last 12 months. During bad weather occurrences, residents of Sioux Falls and people who are traveling through may get caught in a hailstorm while driving.

This can be dangerous.

Let’s discuss what you can do in this situation and how Sioux Falls Dent Repair can help repair your car’s dents and dings after the hailstorm with Paintless Dent Repair (PDR).

What Should You Do?

Here is a step-by-step guide for what you should do if you get caught in a hailstorm while driving in Sioux Falls.

  • Do Not Leave Your Car

As much as you want to just leave your car and get indoors, do not make the mistake of leaving your car during a hailstorm. Severe hailstorms mean golf ball-sized hail, which can easily land you a trip to the hospital. Your car’s roof is ample strong, and you should wait out the hailstorm in your car.

  • Pull Over to Safety

Driving in a hailstorm is not an option. Moreover, the speed of your car and the hailstorm can do greater damage to your car and even shatter windows. Your best bet is to slowly pull over to the side, away from traffic, and switch your hazard lights on.

  • Move Away from Windows

Huddle to the center of your car and away from the windows to avoid injury in case the window breaks. Every inch counts so pull everyone near the center of the roof.

  • Cover Eyes & Head

Shattering glass can fly very far. Find an extra jacket, blanket, or any thick fabric to cover your head and eyes, and the same goes for the passengers.

  • Drive to Safety Before Getting Out

Once the hailstorm passes, which you will know when the noise stops, drive your car to safety. Drive to safety before you check your car for damage. It might have gone through a lot, but it cannot get any worse till you reach safety.

Hail Damage on Your Car

It is inevitable that your car’s roof, hood, and other parts look like they were popping corn. After a hailstorm, it is best to get the dents and dings fixed quickly, and Sioux Falls Dent Repair‘s Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) is the best and fastest solution.

Dents on Jeep Wrangler

Dents on Jeep Wrangler

Dents on jeeps are inevitable. When you use your jeeps for off-road adventures on rugged terrains and rocky roads, it is easy to pick up dents and dings. This will make your jeep look more battered and also lower its resale value.

Jeeps and cars have bodies made of aluminum. The aluminum panels make repairing the dents and dings much more difficult. Aluminum used in automobiles is not brittle and comes in a variety of strengths. They are hard to dent as they take double the amount of force to dent as opposed to mild steel.

Dent repair of jeep wranglers takes much more force as well as different tools to get it right.

What are the Common Dents on a Jeep Wrangler?

Your jeep wrangler can have numerous types of dents. But Sioux Falls knows how to remove all these dents effectively. Here is a list of some of the most common dents.

  • Round Dents

Round dents are caused by round objects hitting the bumper, door, or hood. These could be hailstones, rocks, footballs, baseballs, basketball, causing a dent to be formed immediately.

  • Car Dings

Car dings are the type of dents that occur when small objects hit your jeep on a windy day or during a rocky ride. Most damage of this nature is easy and affordable to repair, as it is mostly a small scratch, crack or chip in the paint. To keep your jeep’s value high, it is essential to get these minor dents and dings repaired with PDR as soon as possible to avoid further damage to your jeep.

  • Crease Dents

Crease dents stretch your jeeps metal. They are complex and time-consuming to repair but can repair using PDR. Using advanced and modern techniques, crease dents are no longer a problem and can repair easily.

PDR for Your Jeep Wrangler

Paintless dent repair (PDR) is a cost-effective way to restore the car’s body to factory-like condition in the least amount of time and cost. Most auto dent removal requires using body fillers or paints to fill in dents that are not as long-lasting.

Bondo and fillers are used in traditional body shop repairs to make the car’s surface look straight, while paintless dent repair simply fixes your jeep’s dent. Our certified technicians take their time softly massaging the metal back to its original condition, preserving the factory finish.

BMW Paintless Dent Repair

In today’s quick video, we are tackling some crease-style dents on the hood of a 2019 BMW X3. According to the owner, they came out from a restaurant they parked at and saw the dents on their car’s hood.

The hood of the X3 is made from aluminum and has absolutely no access points on the back of the hood which is why we had to opt for the glue pulling method for removing the dents. Fortunately, we here at Sioux Falls Dent Repair have a lot of experience in glue pulling and own some of the best pull tabs in the industry.

As you can see in the “after” footage, the dents and other damage was completely removed and the hood looks as good as new.

Volkswagen Dent Repair

Hey there, today we are tackling a massive dent on a 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan SE. We will be removing this damage with our paintless dent repair method of repair. This damage was caused by a row of shopping carts being pushed by a shopping cart pusher/retriever. As you can probably see, the dent is not only big, but quite deep as well and we are going to have our hands full. But, we like a good challenge here at Sioux Falls Dent Repair and we can’t wait to get started. Although no one likes to dent their brand new car, this is the perfect PDR candidate where the body line is crushed in. Initially, we’re going to use the glue pulling method to get the majority of this dent out and then we can remove the internal trim to get better access to the panel’s back side. Being a new car, we had to take off some of the trim to see what kind of access we would get so that we could give the customer an estimate.

Fortunately for us, the customer was going out for the weekend so that gave us a lot of time to properly work on the car and get it back to its original, or at least close to its original look. We also did a pre diagnostic scan like we do with all our repairs here just because we have plans on taking off the trim and disconnecting electrical components as well.

What Tool Is That? – Paintless Dent Repair Tools

Today, we’re going to be looking at one of the PDR tools that was posted on the Instagram feed and we got a lot of questions about.

The tool itself can be separated into the handle and the main component called the Tequila Door Lord from Anson PDR. They are available in four (4) different sizes and do originally come with ratchet handles, however, the upgraded handle we use is a lot more comfortable and easier to work with.

The handle we use is called the Guerrilla Grip which is also from Anson PDR but was initially made by John Highly. It is a “T” handle design but can be disconnected and assembled as a longer handle if needed. Anson PDR does have other designs including a longer handle that comes fitted with a rubber ball at the end. The first time I got to use this handle was at the Dent Olympics Training Event this year at MTE. I actually used the Door Lord on the Mazda repair and people were asking me about it.

FAQs About Dent Repair With PDR

FAQs About Dent Repair With PDR

If you’re interested in learning about the wonders of paintless dent repair – today we’re going to answer some of the most frequently asked questions about PDR. Sioux Falls Dent Repair in South Dakota has been repairing dents via the paintless dent repair method for a very long time. We have a long list of satisfied clients, and over the years, we’ve been able to build a team of experienced professionals.

Fixing any vehicle with the PDR method is more about the individual’s skill rather than the tools they use. What looks like a simple process is actually years of hard work that went in to create the perfect technique. It is one of the reasons we proudly boast of being the most skilled PDR shop in Sioux Falls.

  • What is Paintless Dent Removal?

Paintless dent repair/removal is a process in which the car’s metal is reshaped back to its original form. Unlike the traditional way of repairing a dent, which includes body fillers and a paint job on the car’s body, the PDR process only involves a massage on the back of the dent. This process fixes the car’s body and makes it look fresh again.

  • Which Dents Can You Not Fix By PDR?

Even though PDR can be used to fix most of the dents that your car can get, there are some dents that PDR can’t fix. If the damage is too big and the dent is too sharp, or if a part of the body has come apart, PDR can’t be used. Moreover, if large amounts of paint have been removed from the car’s body in an accident, PDR can’t be used.

In situations like these, we recommend the customer to go for an auto-body shop repair.

  • How Long Can the PDR Process Take?

The answer to this question depends solely on the type of damage your car has sustained. If your car has sustained serious damage, which is still repairable by PDR, the process might take two or three days. But in normal circumstances, when the repair is small, the process can also take only five minutes. This is also one of the reasons people prefer getting dents fixed with the PDR method. It’s quick and simple.

  • What Are the Benefits of PDR?

There are several benefits of PDR. It is because of these benefits that we recommend customers to get their car fixed via the PDR method if possible.

  • It’s Cheaper: A traditional dent repair is a lot harder and uses more materials than a PDR. Paint and body filler are used, because of which the cost goes up. But a PDR is simple, because of which the cost is much lower.
  • Prolongs the Life of Your Car: In the PDR method, the protective coating over your car’s paint isn’t removed. Because of this reason, not only does your car look fresh – but it can also stay stronger for a longer period of time.
