Have you ever experienced the frustration of finding a fresh dent on your flawless vehicle? For car lovers everywhere this is a week ruiner in the making. Chances are the first solution that comes to mind is getting an estimate from a body shop. But before you go out and finalize your decision consider the benefits of choosing a paintless solution from our Sioux Falls body repair team.
Qualifications for PDR
Paintless dent repair can only be done if the dent:
• Is minor. For example, hood dents, door dings, or fender benders.
• Is not located on the edges of the car.
• Has not compromised the paint finish of your car.
The Sioux Falls Body Repair Process
Paintless dent removal is a fairly simple process for our Sioux Falls body repair team. We begin by isolating the dent, depending on where it’s located of course. This usually means removing some panels so we can access the back of the damage. Then the technicians gently push the dent back into place while being careful not to over extend it. This can cause the metal to stretch and requires a steady hand to avoid.
Benefits of Paintless Dent Repair
PDR has many benefits. Here are a few of its highlights.
1. Cost Effective
Hail and other minor inconveniences can end up costing a fortune to repair. Luckily, PDR is the most affordable method of removing dents.
The paintless dent repair process is very fast so it ends up costing less.
PDR does not require anything beyond the talent and tools of our Sioux Falls body repair experts so there is no added material cost.
2. Time Saving
Time is money. Most adults are busy people. Minor dents may take up to several weeks if you choose traditional methods. However, PDR takes a short time to carry out.
It only takes the technicians few hours to repair the dent thus enabling you to continue with your day-to-day operations.
Traditional dent repair may take many days and even weeks thereby inconveniencing the owner of the car
3. Environment Friendly
Paintless dent removal doesn’t use any of the toxic chemicals found in traditional methods.
This prevents air pollution and harmful runoff.
4. Original Car Quality Restored
In most cases, repainting one part of your car will result in uneven color distribution. You probably don’t want your car to look like a leopard (unless that’s what you’re going for) so paintless dent repair has been designed to keep your factory finish intact. Sioux Falls Dent Repair uses non-invasive tools and techniques to restore the body of your car, so your paint job remains completely unaffected. This way you get to maintain your maximum resale value.
To begin, lets discuss the positives of ‘Do it Yourself’ techniques. DIY is far from a new concept. In fact, it’s been around forever. DIY is usually meant to save money or time and in that regard it succeeds; but only occasionally. The main reason we like online DIY tutorials is because they act as a great entry to paintless ding repair. Many drivers today are still unaware of its existence and their first exposure is internet guides. This alone has spawned hundreds of technicians and happy customers, something our Sioux Falls ding repair team is very grateful for. However, we couldn’t possibly begin to count the number of times we’ve seen a perfectly good coat of paint go to waste due to careless DIY jobs.
Lack of Experience Can Turn Into Disaster
Where do we begin? As stated before, there is nothing wrong with DIY techniques by default. But the introduction of the internet popularized it, turning everyone into an expert on whatever subject they like. This is a dangerous mentality to have and leads to many cracked paint jobs. Paintless ding repair is a constantly evolving skill so following one guide won’t turn you into an expert or even yield the results you want. By all means, if you are experienced in body repair then fix the ding yourself. In fact, most of our Sioux Falls ding repair techs do their own repairs. But for the rest, DIY techniques will cause more harm than good.
Quality Tools Are Expensive
In order to do PDR the right way you’ll need a high quality set of tools. There are a number of place you can find off the shelf tools in Sioux Falls, but these tend to be no more than cheap gimmicks. If you’re serious about removing that ding then you can pick up a proper tool kit, but these will run you around three figures. That’s hardly worth it for one little dent. Granted they will work for multiple repairs. However, with the amazing rates our Sioux Falls ding repair shop provides those tools won’t be able to make up the difference. Today we will be talking about a crease style dent that will be repaired using the paintless dent repair method on a 2013 Ford Mustang. Paintless dent repair can also be referred to as paintless dent removal or as PDR. This vehicle was recently purchased by our customer and he didn’t notice this damage prior to purchasing this vehicle. The customer happened to be washing his vehicle shortly after purchasing his new Mustang and found this damage while drying the vehicle off. After discovering this newly noted damage he had to have it fixed right away, after all who wants to drive around in a newer car like a Mustang and have a big dent in it! He contacted us to come to his home in Sioux Falls, SD and give him a damage assessment. He was very happy to find out we could fix this using the paintless dent repair method rather than take it to a body shop. This customer had prior experience in the paint and body industry and knew of all of the potential issues when it comes to painting a car, from incorrect color matches to adhesion issues, he knew he choose the correct form of repair for his vehicle.
We start the video off with showing you the damage in the natural light reflection, this would be how a customer would see the damage if the car was for instance parked in their garage. Next we show what the damage looks like under a professional paintless dent repair light, to a technicians eyes they are then able to see the damage with much more precision, this allows them to fix it at the highest level!
To start this repair off, we roll the window down and install a stainless steel window guard, this protects the window from any damage when we install our tools down though the glass opening. We then will setup our light to allow us to see the damage and start the repair. During this repair process you will see the technician twists the tool with his wrist, this creates a prying motion on the damage slowly pushing it or massaging it back into its original shape. Throughout the process the technician also uses what is called a blending hammer, the blue hammer shown in the video, to slowly blend the damage out. This hammer has specialized tips on it that are highly polished and will not harm the painted finish. When using a blending hammer, every hit that is made on the painted finish sends vibrations into the metal panel, this helps with the metal to move back into its original shape, making for a much cleaner repair. The technician will then go back to using his tool to push the damage out once again. Also shown later in the video is the use of glue pulling. The glue pulling method was used in this case to pull out some of the slightly deeper damage, by using this other style of repair the technician is able to pull out bigger sections of the damage faster then once the damage is pulled out to a satisfactory point, the tech will then switch back to a tool to pin point the low spots and continue to remove the damage.
We finish the video off when showing you the damage completely repaired in both the natural light and with a paintless dent repair light. As you can see the damage turned out great, the customer was very happy with the repair, and happy he choose Sioux Falls Dent Repair to repair his vehicle!
